My approach to philosophical problems is that of a critical-idealist, or pragmatist (in a hermeneutical mode): Kant, Cassirer, Dewey, Habermas, and Ricoeur.  My main concerns are to understand the powers and limits of scientific explanations – especially those in the life sciences – and to explain ethical responsibilities and human rights in a democratic society, as well as to experiment in order to find educational models that promote our full humanity.
